Given the high mortality rate for parents and siblings in YA, what are some of the challenges and benefits of giving your YA character an on-page family?


Amanda Sellet is the author of By the Book: A Novel of Prose and Cons. During her previous career in journalism, she wrote book reviews for The Washington Post, personal essays for NPR, and music and movie coverage for VH1. She has an M.A. in Cinema Studies from New York University. After a mostly coastal childhood, she now lives in Kansas with her husband, daughter, and cats.
