How would I make a crush subtle, but not too subtle? I don’t want the focus of my book to be the crush, but I do want to have that element in the story.

In a book with more going on than just a romance, how do you balance a character’s focus between the romance and other pressing matters? (When reading, I sometimes feel like the characters’ focus on romance feels inauthentic when there are other things that, in reality, would steal more of their attention.)

How could I give chemistry to people but not have them get together? I think the end of my book will be where they don’t get together, but I want my readers to be getting excited for them and want them to be together.

Any tips for turning good friends into love interests towards the end of the story without giving away they will get together in the end? My story is more a love story about the character loving herself, than realizing romantic love was in front of her with her friend.

How do I find a place for the characters to talk and develop their relationship? I’m writing a fantasy with a romantic subplot and all I can think of is balconies. They are kind of imprisoned and don’t get a lot of time alone together.

I love a little bit of cheesiness, especially in a rom-com. Do you think it’s possible to write a cheesy book and still have a chance of selling?
This was discussed in yesterday’s How To Rom Com. The answer is YES!
