Hi Kristine, your article was very insightful. I have to say I love writing – I hate being a writer. The business side of writing (querying, editing etc.) can be disheartening. It’s always nice though to hear stories where determination and hard work wins out in the end. There’s hope still!
This is always encouraging to hear other folks stories about the query trenches. Writing queries has been a challenge of mine. I’ve been querying for about 4 years. In that time, I’ve queried 3 different books and have racked in about 170 rejections, I mean, declines. 🙂 I have had some bites but nothing has gone all the way. There are times when I wonder if I’m an agent repellent or that I just don’t write what sells. It’s frustrating and I have let it get to me but I’m finally getting through all of that. I’ve done writeoncon in the past. I had no ninjas or requests but it was helpful to get feedback. Same for this year, the forums have been helpful in feedback, which challenges me. This is a good thing. Thanks for sharing the data as well. Encouraging and helpful.

Hi Kristine! I heard you speak at an SCBWI event a couple years ago if my memory serves me right and you were just as informative then. 🙂 I’ll admit I’m feeling a bit insecure about my query so if you have a chance to look at it sometime in the forums, I’d love to get your feedback. It’s YA Fantasy: THE THIRD QUIVER. Thank you for this marvelous post! I love that you surveyed authors. Gives real perspective.

I’m so glad you found it helpful! The business side can take a toll, but it’s worth it! Good luck to you!
This is a fantastic and encouraging article. Thanks for taking the time to post!
