I didn’t know what to expect from the title but somehow I knew I had to watch it. I’m glad I did it. It means a lot to me what you said about defining success daily. Thank you

How do you handle different mediums of writing books and plays? Do you work on one thing at a time until it’s done? Or schedule them to work both intermittently? I’m a debut MG published author interested in writing PBs and screenplays. I’ve been feelling a bit overwhelmed trying to learn all I can about both mediums, so I had decided to concentrate on screenwriting first….But I heard about WriteOnCon. So now I’m spending the weekend (and weeks beyond to listen to these sessions) to learn more about PBs and the book industry. How do you juggle things?

Congrats on you debut! That is super exciting! I have a weird process and juggle many projects at the same time. I get bored easily if I work on just one for too long and often have a lot of stories floating around in my head that I want to get on paper. I can’t say that I have an exact process of juggling them all as it’s mostly intuitive which one I want to work on each day. It depends on which project I feel most excited for in that moment and where the ideas are flowing the best without me feeling like I’m forcing creativity.

I hope you enjoy your first write on con! I’ve learned so much through this conference over the years!

Thanks for this – I feel like I’m your emotional duplicate. LOL! Going through the exact same range of emotions and angle of attack toward writing and getting published. It’s sometimes hard to take a step back and think, I’ve got to take care of me as well. Vanessa Brantley-Newton also talked about tapping. I forgot about that – thank you.

As someone whose path has had all kinds of speed bumps and sideroads, I agree that it was hard work to get myself to a place where I can be okay with letting things develop on their own. Whether that’s projects, conversations with industry experts, etc. they will happen in their own time.

My hardest thing was constantly beating myself up for when I should be writing and wasn’t. But I discovered much of my writing, like getting to know my characters, happens when I’m quiet and don’t feel like I HAVE to be doing something. So when I finally do sit down to type, my story and world-building is so much richer.
