It takes about thirty people every year to make WriteOnCon happen smoothly. We’re always in need of extra hands to help out! Below are our current openings for WriteOnCon 2021.
Think you might be interested in one of these positions? We’d love to hear from you! If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask — we might be a little weird, but we don’t bite!
Application deadline for all positions is end-of-day November 7, 2020.

Volunteers
Volunteers work closely with their team coordinators to ensure tasks are completed accurately and on time; coordinators are also there to answer questions and help troubleshoot. For nearly all volunteer positions the number of hours involved is very flexible — give what you can, though we do ask a minimum commitment. All of our volunteers receive a small honorarium for their time.
Live Event Hosts — These volunteers assist with ensuring that live events at the conference run smoothly. They help get the speaker set up, then take and moderate questions from attendees and present them to the speaker via text/chat communication. All of their work is backstage, so they are never on-camera. You MUST be available for at least one day of the weekend, February 19-21, 2021. Each event is 60 minutes. Strong internet connection and good-quality mic a must. Minimum commitment of 3 events.
Podcast Interviewers — These volunteers help produce our popular podcast events for the conference. They are assigned speakers who have signed up to do podcast interviews and are responsible for scheduling interview times and completing the recording. Interviews take place from November through January. Each podcast is 30 minutes. You should be comfortable holding energetic conversations with strangers (you’ll have lots in common, though!). Strong internet connection and good-quality mic a must. Minimum commitment of 3 podcasts.
Podcast Transcribers — These volunteers proof transcriptions of our podcast interviews to make them accessible to those with hearing difficulties. Transcriptions are done as interviews are completed (November through January). We auto-generate the transcripts to make the process easier and faster; simply ensure the text matches the audio and correct errors (we provide all volunteers with instructions on how to do this). Minimum commitment of 5 transcripts.
Forums Moderators — These volunteers help maintain law & order in the forums (or at least friendly, orderly discourse). They are assigned a subset of forum boards to monitor to ensure users are following guidelines and being supportive. Forums open a week before the conference (February 12, 2021) and are active through the day following (February 22, 2021). You must be able to check in every day during conference weekend, preferably more than once, and most days in the week prior.
