As someone who suddenly went from being a Stephen King to being a George R.R. Martin due to chronic illness, I appreciate that this topic is being covered!
A few Qs: Are agents and editors willing to work with slow writers? How do you manage deadlines as someone who works slower than others? How do you market when you have a new book so that you can regain your audience’s interest?

Do you read as much as you did before — and enjoy it the same way as before you were published? I wonder if other books still inspire you,
I have heard some authors moved away from getting contracts ahead of a completed draft. Is that a strategy that can be useful for some writers if the pressure of deadlines is not conducive to their process?

Get a cat to de-stress! They help people–and many writers–de-stress! (As long as you’re not allergic). They also make great Instagram pics!

Thank you so much for discussing this topic!! I’m a slow writer (I try to speed it up, but I tend to edit as I write and prefer semi-polished first drafts) and this SERIOUSLY helped me out! Thank you!!!

Great topic for writers, and I’m somewhat relieved to hear your insights writing slow and publishing in general. Thank you!
It was so refreshing to hear your perspective! I am very slow and always feeling I’m not doing enough or getting left behind (which then becomes kind of crippling in term of my actual output). Really appreciated your honesty and your suggestions!! (By the way, I have kids who are young adults and I feel like I’m just getting started, so never feel you are off to a ‘late start’.)

What a great and under-discussed topic! I really enjoyed your presentation, honesty about your own writing challenges, and useful advice/tools you offer for writers so that they can sit with who they are and how they work while improving their work habits and moving their writing life forward. Plus, you’ve got a fabulous presence and gave a great presentation!

How do you keep comparison or jealousy in check when cheering for writing friends who are faster to reach the successes that we want, too?
Do you think the pressure is still there, or have you changed as a writer?
