He is thoughtful, troubled, in a quandary. His facial expression tells me this and his head movements. He is in a dark place, looks ind of intimidating and he is probably about to set out on a difficult mission or needs to do something that he is unsure or concerned about.

I like her because she is putting herself out there, she is trying. She looks confident and cheerful, I think she may be worried about people liking her but she is willing to take a risk. I believe she wants to be recognized for her musical talent and has big dreams.

This person is skilled in some kind of mechanical field, she is focused and determined to do whatever it is that she is doing correctly. She seems to be comfortable in her own skin and I get the feeling that she is a leader.

This one makes me feel scared for the future of young people and the kind of world they inhabit. I feel like ripping the goggles off of this person and pushing them in to a forest or any other part of nature. It makes me depressed. I think this person is fearful and anxious, the eyes tell me that.

How would you go about this when writing a picture book?

Thank you for your workshop. I noticed that you tend to wrap your descriptions and details into actions / active voices. Am I right? Would you care to comment?

How much detail is too much detail? Too little?

Do you find you change your approach to amount of detail slightly depending on whether first person or third person POV?
How would you recommend including details without slowing down the story in a fast-paced novel?
