I just want to say that Blood Heir is one of my favorite books! We’ve talked a little on Instagram (I’m Grace from @fictionaladventures on bookstagram) I got an e-ARC of Red Tigress and I loved it as well, of course! I’ve loved seeing your comments on your readalong of Blood Heir, especially the craft tips. Since I’m plotting my first fantasy (I’ve always written contemporary novels before) those have been so timely and helpful.

I’ve written six YA contemporaries, but now I’m trying my first YA fantasy. It feels like relearning how to write! I want to make sure my plot is solid and unique. Any tips on plotting YA fantasy in particular would be incredibly helpful!

I’m planning a bunch of cool twists for my story. How do I make sure they feel genuine, are unique and shocking, and don’t feel like a plot device?

Any tips on ways you can use your steps and the structure to create ideas and pinpoint areas that need developing within the story?
Any tips for writing an alternate last half of Act 2 and Act 3 for a WIP without losing the first version and comparing the two.

Can your character be pulled from their life by something that is solved within next few chapter and then find a new goal? I feel like it happens in Star Wars, but wondered if it’s still something that’s okay.
Nevermind, I just realized plenty of books do this like LotR when Frodo goes to bring the ring, then reached that goal before being thrown into an adventure because he agrees to go bring the ring to Mordor. =)

Character – Young Knight Tommy, newest graduate from the Knights Academy.
Situation – After being chosen by one of the most Secretive Kings in the Palace City, Tommy must learn the world of the nobles and work to learn more about his own past and find out just what the Nobles are hiding.
Goal – Tommy learning about his lineage, where he comes from.
Conflict – The zealous worshipers of a trickster god that want Tommy for his own things as well as the followers of a mysterious object that’s corrupting magic within the world.
Objective: Tommy’s objectives are to make it through the observing process and fully serve the king.
Motivation: Some of the nobles know more than they’re letting on, and Tommy is even willing to get himself into danger to find out what they know.
Core Identity: Strengths – Stubbornness, Quick-witted. Weakness – Fast/Loud Mouth, Stubbornness Virtues – He holds himself and his best friend in high regard. Beliefs – There is strength in everyone no matter their role.
Tommy’s personality shines through with his ability to make something out of nothing – because he grew up in the Knights Academy as a child he did not have much to his name and learned to make things for passing the time or making things like food stretch to last.
His meager means lead him to dislike some nobility due to their frivolous natures and disrespect for food and certain precious things.
One of Tommy’s quirks comes from his love of two books that were gifted to him by someone from a young age and he would do anything to protect them.
Within the Palace City there are several kingdom rulers brought into a neutral space. The space is used for deliberation, partying and even murder plots.
Tommy is from an outer ring of the city, who doesn’t know about everything that’s truly around him till he’s exposed to it.
External Conflict: The leylines of magic are becoming corrupt, and with the trickster god’s influence and shaping, Tommy must figure out how to stop the magic in the world from going awry and dying.
Internal Conflict: Tommy has watched as people who he’s respected and trusted become corrupt due to the noble houses and the world of the Kings and he himself feels the pull and must try to be better, and do better.

I always think when I write, that if i didn’t write it on that specific day, the story would be different, does that make sense?

When I write my characters I tend to make them relatable to me, so a lot of my characters like anime or make movie/book references, I feel it makes myself happy as well as my future readers. Does that make sense?
a lot of ebooks tend to have characters buried in debt and living in manky houses but I think its a bit overused, what do you think?

I just want to say that you are amazing! What is your recommendation on hurting your characters when you struggle to hurt them? (Especially in fantasy, where hurdles are different compared to in contemporary settings)
