Thanks for this! Something I’ve also learned is that all those notebooks, those WIPs that didn’t go anywhere–none of that is wasted time or wasted words. I will often recycle passages I love into other works, plus just having written it helped me grow. You know how you can look back and see how much you’ve improved since those early scribblings? That’s because you’re a BETTER writer now.
Great points, strikingnotes! I love the idea of looking back to see how far we’ve improved. I mean, I thought my earliest work was SO GOOD and re-reading it now, wow, it’s terrible. And also like you said about recycling passages…maybe I can use pieces somewhere else. You are so right that no writing is wasted.
Thanks, Sandy! If writing makes us happy, we’re bound to keep writing, which makes us better writers which makes up happier… Let’s not leave any room for negative self-talk!

I write to reach readers. Otherwise, I’d only think my stories. I’d have no need for paper, computer, or pen. Getting paid once in a while is also nice. But I am a writer because I write.

LOVE this! We all need to find ways to leave the negative self-talk behind and simply enjoy doing what we enjoy doing!

Exactly! So keep on writing, Debbie! Reach those readers!
